You Season 5: Everything We Know So Far

You on Netflix has proved one of the streaming provider’s most successful shows yet, with suspense-filled plot lines and a steady stream of complex characters. So we can’t help questioning whether there’s going to be a You season 5, following the release of the latter half of season four last week (this season dropped in two parts), which contained a life-altering twist that changed main character Joe’s life forever.

Having binged the current offering, we’re newly hooked on to the antics of one of television’s most notorious psychopaths… will Joe (Penn Badgley) be back for another season anytime soon? Thankfully, we haven’t had to wait all that long for a hint about the show’s future – because delayed gratification is overrated. There’s the good, or at least promising, news, and the not-so-good news.

Is there a You Season 5 release date yet?

While there’s no definitive statement from Netflix on this yet, it’s worth mentioning that the platform does tend to announce ahead of time when a hit show is coming into its finale season.

The release date is naturally TBC as the show hasn’t officially been confirmed anywhere, but given previous release schedules it might be expected sometime late next year i.e. 2024, or early 2025. We’ll keep you posted right here once we know more.

What can we expect from the You season 5 plot?

Let’s start with the positive. While nothing’s been confirmed, we do have a clue in the form of an interview with Sera Gamble, a showrunner for You

“We have an idea for season five that we’re excited about,” she revealed in a podcast interview with the Hollywood Reporter‘s show, TV’s Top 5, adding “It was never anyone’s intention to run this one into the ground. When we’re done, we’ll be done.”

Sounds like a You season 5 is coming then! Sera also opens up about the forthcoming season’s location, adding: “You’ll know what the next season would be when you see the end of this season. We tell you what the idea is.”

Where will the new series be set?

Given that main character Joe – played by Penn Badgley – and his girlfriend Kate – Charlotte Ritchie – return to New York at the end of season 4 (which is set in London), the future season location also seems to be confirmed.

Will You season 5 be the last season?

Now for the bad news (we did warn you). While we can be fairly confident that You season 5 on its way, it may well be the last one, according to the show’s star.

“I think if there’s another season, I think it’s only going to be one. I think — this is my understanding, but I don’t know, I really don’t know,” said Penn for an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
