World’s cheapest holiday destination has beers for under £1.50

Spain might be the UK’s leading holiday destination but it’s not the cheapest hotspot for 2024. Research from the team at Post Office Travel Money found a long-haul destination might be better value this year.

The team looked at the cost of holiday essentials in the world’s leading destinations to find the best bargains for Brits.

Hoi An, a coastal city in Vietnam, topped the list this year with the best prices for bargain-hunting Britons.

The Vietnamese hotspot has an UNESCO heritage Ancient town and it’s incredibly close to some pretty beaches.

It’s also a bargain with a bottle of local beer costing just £1.16, a cup of filter coffee coming in at £1.30 and a three course evening meal for two with a bottle of wine priced at under £40.

Hoi An is also known for its tailors who can create almost any made-to-wear outfit from scratch for tourists.

The tailoring service is extremely good value and Britons could return to the UK with a whole new wardrobe.

While filter coffee might be the cheapest option, don’t leave Vietnam without sampling its traditional blend which is made with condensed milk.

Cape Town was the second best-value holiday destination with a bottle of local beer costing just over £1.50. A meal for two with a bottle of wine was great value at under £35.

However, Britons will need to consider the cost of flights if they’re heading long-haul this year.

The closest airport to Hoi An is Da Nang and flights are likely to cost upwards of £600 for a return ticket. Despite this, accommodation in Vietnam is generally good value.
