PREVIEW: Men’s Golf Individuals to Compete in Two Greater Houston-Area Tournaments – University of Houston Athletics

MONTGOMERY & HUMBLE, Texas – The University of Houston Men’s Golf program begins its spring season with several student-athletes competing as individuals at a pair of tournaments in the greater Houston area.
Sophomore Bryant Hiskey, junior Drew Murdock, sophomore Hudson Weibel and junior Jacob Borow will represent Houston on the 6,945-yard, par-72 course at the Houston Classic at Golf Club of Houston.
Freshman Chi Chun Chen, freshman Grant Doggett and junior Laurenz Schiergen will don the Scarlet and White for  Houston on the 6,788-yard, par-71 Miller Course at the Bentwater Intercollegiate.
At both tournaments, the Cougars will play 36 holes Monday with the Final Round teeing off Tuesday morning.

The Cougars will compete against student-athletes from and host Sam Houston, Rice, UTSA, WKU, Southern Illinois, UT Rio Grande Valley, UT Arlington, Missouri State, Tarleton, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Commerce, Nicholls, Midland College, Baylor and TCU.

The Cougars will compete against student-athletes from Oklahoma Christian, Central Oklahoma, Harding, Arkansas-Fort Smith, Missouri-St. Louis, Midwestern State, Southern Arkansas, Mississippi College, Cameron, Henderson State, West Texas A&M, DBU and host Southern Nazarene.
Weibel leads the Cougars at the Houston Classic and stands third on the team with a 72.50 scoring average while Murdock is fourth at 72.67 and tied for 13th at the Papago Individual Event on Sept. 18-19, 2023, during the fall season.
Schiergen competed in two tournaments during the fall while Chen and Doggett will tee off in the second events of their young collegiate careers.
For the Houston Classic, Hiskey and Weibel begin Monday’s First Round at 7:30 a.m., in the first group off No. 15 with Murdock (second group off No. 15) and Borow (second group off No. 18 following).

For the Bentwater Intercollegiate, Doggett will tee off No. 16 at 8 a.m., Monday, with Schiergen (first group off No. 17) and Chen (first group off No. 18) following.

Following the Houston Classic and the Bentwater Intercollegiate, the Cougars open the spring season as a team when they play host to the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas on Feb. 19-20.
From there, Houston will tee off at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on March 3-5 before returning home to play host to the All-American Intercollegiate on March 18-19 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
