Before East Carolina Basketball could adjust to life in the Bahamas, Ohio State Women’s Basketball was already up 8-0.Â
The No.15-ranked Buckeyes (3-1) opened the game on a 10-0 run as the Pirates’ press failed to slow down the Big Ten powerhouse early.
Jacy Sheldon scored 20 points and Cotie McMahon added 11 as Ohio State rolled in its first game, 79-55, of the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship in Nassau, Bahamas.Â
The Pirates rallied in the second quarter and cut the Ohio State lead to three points. The Buckeyes led 38-32 at halftime, but surged ahead in the third quarter, leading by as many as 19 points in the third frame. That lead only grew.Â
The game was a match up between two 2023 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament teams, and the Buckeyes won their third straight game since opening the season with a loss to USC, also in the Bahamas, on Nov. 6, 83-74. Ohio State reached the Elite Eight in 2023 and entered the season ranked No.7 in the nation, the second highest ranked team in the Big Ten to Iowa.Â
East Carolina WBB Never Recovered From OSU WBB Fast Start
The Pirates (2-2) never fully recovered from the 10-0 start by Ohio State. Synia Johnson led the way with 14 points. ECU never led in the game.Â
East Carolina came to the Bahamas after nearly a week off following a loss to VCU, 55-50. The defending American Athletic Conference Tournament Champion  are coming off a 23-10 season.Â
