‘Number of patients’ in A&E in ‘suspected chemical incident’

A “number of patients” are being treated in hospital following a suspected chemical incident. The patients are believed to have used M Club Festival Park before paramedics were called to three different addreses in Hanley, Northwood and Leek.

A number of other patients also made their own way to the accident unit at the Royal Stoke University Hospital. The fitness centre has been closed today (Wednesday, April 17). The exact nature of the incident is unknown.

An ambulance service spokesman told Stoke-on-Trent Live: “West Midlands Ambulance Service treated four people, two of whom were transported to hospital, following an incident at Festival Park last night.

“We were called to three separate private addresses within North Staffordshire from 8.25pm onwards after patients started to develop symptoms once they had returned home. A man and a teenage male were transported to the Royal Stoke University Hospital as a precaution whilst two further teenage males were assessed and discharged at home.

“Ambulance staff also assisted staff at the Royal Stoke University Hospital after a number of patients self-presented there. The service dispatched four ambulances and five paramedic officers across the various locations.”
