Morgan Stanley’s chairman Jonathan Bloomer dies in luxury yacht tragedy; British tech magnate Mike Lynch survives – World News
The chairman of Morgan Stanley International and a former CEO of Prudential Plc, 70-year-old Jonathan Bloomer, was one among the people who died in the August 19 luxury yacht sinking off the coast of Italy. Judy, his wife, was also among the killed. They had been invited as guests on the superyacht Bayesian to celebrate British tech tycoon Mike Lynch’s acquittal during a trial where Jonathan Bloomer had testified for the defence.
It is suspected that six passengers were trapped inside the Bayesian after it was struck by a tornado close to Porticello, Sicily. However, one woman remains missing. She has not been identified, but Hannah Lynch, Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, is reportedly unaccounted for. Besides Hannah Lynch, those missing are Christopher Morvillo, one of Lynch’s U.S. lawyers, and his wife, Neda. Rescuers rescued five more people after the accident on Monday.
Additionally, the Italian coast guard said on Thursday that the body of British tech magnate Mike Lynch is among those recovered off the coast of Sicily from the wreckage of a superyacht whose builders had called unsinkable. The family and the solicitors who represented him throughout his trial in the United States have been rejoicing at his recent acquittal on fraud charges.
The 56-meter (184-foot) British-flagged yacht, the Bayesian, was anchored about a kilometre (half a mile) offshore when it capsized in a storm early on Monday. According to civil protection officials, they think the ship was hit by a waterspout, a tornado that crosses the water and swiftly sank.
