The C&D handicap won by Black Smoke last month looks the key piece of form here. VIRTUAL HUG was 2l behind in second on that occasion but is 4lb better off with Mark Loughnane’s charge now and is taken to land a second course success of the week, having scored quite cosily in a 1m4f apprentice event on Tuesday (escapes penalty).

The race TWOFORTHEGUTTER was third in over 1m4f here in January has turned out to be reasonable low-level form and he’s given a chance to build on that promise now stepping up to 1m6f for the first time. There were better signs from the well-handicapped Further Measure at Southwell last time and he’s second choice returned to the scene of his last win. Bear Claws could also play a prominent role if recapturing the form he showed when placed twice over C&D in the autumn.

Aces Wild (second choice) won comfortably here last month and still looks feasibly weighted but this is an ease in grade for SPANISH ANGEL and he could be primed to record a fourth course win.

Although he hasn’t been seen since July previous winner TAN RAPIDO does rather stand out in this restricted novice. Maris Angel hinted at ability on her recent debut and might be the one to chase the selection home unless the betting suggests David O’Meara’s Bluey’s Boy is expected to leave last summer’s turf debut well behind.

Mick Appleby has quickly worked his magic on BELL SHOT (nap) who can make light of a 4lb rise for last month’s Lingfield success. Fellow last-time-out scorer Giant is second choice ahead of Woodstock.

It required only hand riding from Dale Swift for KOJI to edge ahead late on over C&D on her recent first outing for Ivan Furtado so a 2lb rise may not prevent her following up. Amancio may give her most to do.

Plenty with chances. CRAFTER didn’t look all out here last time so a 2lb rise may not stop him going in again. Graffiti (second choice) and Coolree head the dangers.

Locked N’ Loaded is better than the bare facts of his run here earlier in the week but he’ll need a good gallop to chase back over this shorter trip. He’s a player but it could be worth chancing DAPPLED LIGHT, who ran respectably after meeting trouble on his British/stable debut last time and he should be better for the run. Meng Tian looks best of the remainder.
