The third race on Day 3 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival gets underway with the Ryanair Chase at 2.50pm. One of the standout horses in that race is the Willie Mullins trained Blue Lord. The Irish racing trainer will be hopeful of one of his star horses claiming victory here for the first time at the Cheltenham Festival.
Willie Mullins trains the current second betting favourite in the Ryanair Chase – Blue Lord.
The 8-year-old gelding currently sits at odds of around 6/1 with the best horse racing betting sites. Blue Lord has won six of his eight chase starts, including six of his last seven and three in a row. If he can replicate that form here at Cheltenham this year, he will be extremely difficult to stop.
The French gelding aims to win his first Cheltenham Festival race after failing at two previous attempts in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and Arkle Novices’ Chase respectively. He is a phenomenal horse and could give Shishkin a right good go here in the Ryanair Chase.
In terms of Cheltenham odds, Blue Lord’s odds could well shorten as the Ryanair Chase race approaches. Depending on the movement in the betting market on Shishkin, he could potentially go off a lot shorter.
Of course, the Nicky Henderson-trained Shishkin will be Blue Lord’s biggest threat, along with stablemate Janidil and the Gordon Elliott trained Fury Road.
Mullins’ 8-year-old is certainly one of the most promising horses in the race, of that there is no doubt. Fellow legendary trainer Nicky Henderson of course trains the overriding favourite in Shishkin, so be sure to check out Willie Mullins vs Nicky Henderson head-to-head racing stats and net worth by clicking the link.
