Airport, SMCC, Summerfield, Flat Rock winners in girls basketball

CARLETON – Airport’s girls basketball team leaned on its depth to earn a 45-32 win over Jefferson Monday night.

“We are a banged-up group and we’ve got good depth,” Airport coach Darrell Mossburg said. “We had kids step up and play well. Chloe Ruhlig, Sophia Mator and Brenna Baker picked us up at the offensive end and (Peyton) Zajac did a good job as a floor general. We got good physical minutes from Jillian Baker.”

Baker led the 11-6 Jets with 15 points and Mator added 10.

Alivia LeBrun hit a trio of 3-pointers in the second half to lead Jefferson (4-15) with 9 points.

“Jefferson is well coached,” Mossburg said. “They play hard and compete.”


SMCC defends home court

MONROE – St. Mary Catholic Central gave its seniors a nice sendoff with a 54-18 romp over Milan Monday night.

“Good team win, especially for the seniors who played in their last home game,” SMCC coach John Durbin said.

Nine different players recorded points for the 15-3 Kestrels led by Brooke Mossburg with 13.

Marissa Beck topped Milan (5-12) with 5 points.

SMCC took the junior varsity game 41-14.

Seniors spark Flat Rock

FLAT ROCK – Flat Rock’s seniors got a victory in the final game on their home court, beating Grosse Ile 51-29.

“I can’t say enough about McKenna Williams, Mary Bayus, and Yasmine Muheisen,” Flat Rock coach Brian Kryk said. “Those three girls played a lot of quality minutes for us and hopefully, we gave them a memorable send-off on our home court.”

Williams rang up 13 points and 8 rebounds. Madleen Hussein (14 points, 6 rebounds, 9 steals), Addison Kopp (12 points) and Lily Klein (10 rebounds) also played well for the 11-7 Rams.

Summerfield’s Jones shines

PETERSBURG – Jaeli Jones racked up another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead Summerfield past Manchester 61-34 Monday.

Mayley Mannebach added 12 points and Ava Fisher and Mia Miller played well for the 11-7 Bulldogs.

“I didn’t think we played our  best basketball tonight but we made some adjustments and the girls started hitting some outside shots,” Summerfield coach Mickey Moody said. “We hit nine 3s tonight which opened some things up down low. We had nine players score and that was  good to see.”

Summerfield’s junior varisty rolled to 13-2 with a 40-18 victory. Chloe Gonzales led with 10 points.

Huron bounced

RIVERVIEW – Lila Clements scored 13 points, but New Boston Huron fell 56-29 to Riverview Monday.

Huron dipped to 8-9.

Mason overpowered

MORENCI – Tri-County Conference leader Morenci cruised past Erie Mason 44-29 Monday night.

“Morenci shoots the ball well,” Mason coach Josh Swiegert said. “we were able to stay with them (in the second half), but weren’t able to close the gap any further.”

Audrey Trainor paced 5-10 Mason with 12 points.


Rains sparks State Line

TEMPERANCE – Ethan Rains and Jackson Baumker each hit five 3-pointers as State Line Christian closed its regular season with a 53-30 win over Roanoke Christian Monday night.

Baumker finished with 20 points and Rains logged 17. Derek Braithwaite led the defense for the 9-14 Patriots.


Newton leads Monroe

SALINE – Aiden Newton shot games of 242 and 235 to lead Monroe to a 19-11 win over Ann Arbor Skyline Monday.

LJ Robertson added a 202 for the Trojans.

Monroe’s girls pitched a 30-0 shutout as Alexis Woodridge-Lang shot 210, Patricia Reaume 153 and Sydney Cline 146.


Huron hits highs

WARREN – New Boston Huron recorded season highs in rounds 1 (214.4) and 3 (280.1) Saturday in the Warren Woods-Tower Invitational.


Burmeister leads Bedford

TEMPERANCE – The passing of Kinzi Burmeister and rebounding of Addie Hall led Bedford’s eighth grade past Ypsilanti 28-13 Monday.

The seventh graders got points from eight different players in a 23-0 victory.


Lamour rolls to win

Ben Winter and Dan Rios both recorded hat tricks to lead Lamour Printing to a 10-1 win over the Vikings in the  in the Monroe Indoor Coed Soccer League at LevelUp Training Sunday night.
